Stereoscopic Era

The stereoscopic era began in 1855.

Stereoscopic photography is 3d photography , which recreates the illusion of depth.
this is done by taking two images the same distance apart (2.5 inch's).

the first  stereoscope equipment was not made till 1800s.  even thought it was mostly associated with Brewster , it was sit Charles Wheatstone who, in June 1839 he presented the idea to the royal Scottish society of arts.

Wheatstone's actual stereoscope is still preserved at the science museum in London.

The stereoscope took off in a big way when  Queen Victoria and prince Albert observed one at the exhibition at the crystal palace. and Brewster presented her with a stereoscope.

The London stereoscopic and photographic company came. into being in 1850 and continued for seventy years. they listed a hundred thousand stereo photographs  in their 1858 catalogue.

The stereoscopic society was founded in 1893 and is one of two societies operating in Britain , which continues to promote this form of photography. it is still in existence.
